Avalon Johnson Fitzgerald, Partner

Avalon Johnson Fitzgerald draws on her experience as a former federal law clerk and counsel to Fortune 500 companies to guide clients through complex legal matters. Avalon closely collaborates with each client, gathering an in-depth understanding of their specific challenges and objectives to help them achieve the best possible resolution.

As a litigator, Avalon’s analytical skills and thorough understanding of the legal process help her effectively navigate a case from the initial complaint through the appeal.  Avalon learned firsthand how cases are decided while clerking for Ninth Circuit Judge Consuelo M. Callahan and District Judge Morrison C. England. She went on to practice at Downey Brand LLP, Sacramento region’s largest law firm, and, subsequently, the global law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP before ultimately joining Reynolds Tilbury Woodward LLP. Through these experiences, Avalon honed her skills as an advocate and trusted advisor. She draws upon that invaluable experience to help companies resolve a variety of employment matters and business disputes.

Avalon has represented large corporations and closely held companies alike. Her experience includes resolving sensitive pre-litigation claims, responding to complaints before a variety of state and federal agency forums, litigating cases from federal single-plaintiff discrimination and retaliation claims to wage-and-hour class actions in California state court, and addressing complex legal issues on appeal before state and federal appellate courts. She has successfully achieved a defense verdict in a bench trial, and a subsequent award of attorneys’ fees and costs in her client’s favor.

In recognition of her achievements, Avalon was named to the Sacramento Business Journal’s “Best of the Bar” list and to Super Lawyers’s Northern California Rising Stars list. Avalon is currently a contributing editor for two Rutter Group California Practice Guide publications: Civil Procedure Before Trial, Claims and Defenses, and Employment Litigation. She previously served as the Chair of the Eastern District Conference Planning Committee and as the President of the Federal Bar Association, Sacramento Chapter.
